Chapter History
On September 1, 2011, under the able guidance of its chartering President Maxine Moore-Allen, 32 members
of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated established a chapter in Friendswood,
Texas. The goals of the new chapter were to continue the principles of
Scholarship, Service, Sisterhood, and Finer Womanhood, while extending the
image of Zeta into a previously unserved area (by Zetas) between Houston and
Galveston, Texas. Current President, Katina Hampton, is holding Omega Delta
Zeta Chapter's torch of "Living the Zeta Commitment".
While the first year was spent organizing the chapter, in 2012 its efforts really kicked into high gear with
signature programs, as well as Z-HOPE activities and scholarship fundraising.
Since 2012, in cooperation with the Bay Area Turning Point Crisis Intervention
Center which provides shelter for women victims of domestic abuse (Webster,
TX), the Friendswood Zetas have supported their annual “Fill-the-Truck” drive
by providing invaluable assistance with loading and unloading trucks,
inventory, and stocking pantries of donated food supplies to stock local “safe
houses”.
For five consecutive years, the Friendswood Zetas participated in the Adopt-a-Highway program of the Texas
Department of Transportation. The Chapter adopted a well-traveled 2-mile
stretch of highway between the towns of Friendswood and League City. For
cleaning the section four times per year, a formal road sign prominently
displayed the chapter name and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated was located
at each end of the 2-mile section.
In 2012 - 2015 school supplies were provided to Dickinson and Texas City high schools. From 2015 through 2019, Dickinson High School
was adopted. From 2019 to the present, Jeter Elementary in the Alvin
Independent School District is our Adopt-a-School partner. In addition to annual school supplies and
clothing drives, numerous Z-HOPE activities were conducted and families were
selected for Thanksgiving dinners and Christmas gift-giving.
In 2014, its signature scholarship fundraising program was launched. Each year the highly successful
“50-Shades of Blue” event is held and guests are feted with comedy and live
music entertainment. The program has enabled annual scholarships to area
students to increase from $500 to over $3000.
Beginning in 2019, the chapter expanded its fundraising efforts to other
programs such as interactive painting parties, virtual events, Bingo for Bags
which generated over $6,000 total for scholarship awards.
The Friendswood Zetas currently support many of Zetas National programs and projects, including: Z-HOPE,
Eldercare (Winchester Lodge), Adopt-a-School (Hughes Ranch Elementary),
Prematurity Awareness, and Military Appreciation. In 2015 they hosted the
East Texas State (Region IV) Area Workshops, and in 2017 a Youth Auxiliary
program was introduced.
